Central bank governors from across the region met this week to discuss a common framework for cross-border payments, aiming to cut settlement times that currently stretch to several days for some corridors.
The proposal under discussion would let domestic instant-payment systems interlink directly, bypassing intermediary banks that add cost and delay to remittances.
Several governors flagged concerns about supervisory gaps, saying any interlinking framework would need consistent anti-fraud and data-sharing standards before it could launch.
A working group is expected to report back with a draft timeline at the next scheduled meeting.
